Rough Stuff

Any true fisherman knows that you can’t always wait for the perfect conditions to get out on the water. Rain, sleet or shine, the fish bite! Just ask fishing guide Jason Feldner, who fishes for perch, walleye and pike on North Dakota’s Devils Lake. Known as the “The Perch Capital of the World,” Devils Lake has quadrupled in size over the past two decades due to flooding, taking over trees, roads and buildings in the process. When Jason heads out to snag fish on a drizzly day, the prairie wind can kick up 6- to 8-foot sea-like rollers. But thanks to great gear, including his Sperry Top-Siders, he’s able to confidently maneuver his boat among the eerie trees and reel in some whoppers.
Tell us, what are the most trying conditions you’ve ever fished in? Where were you, what did you experience and, most importantly, did you come home with any trophy catches?
