I am looking for someone who knows about small outboards motors to help me with a 6hp Mercury motor that is on my sailboat( Lake Norman, NC) It starts and runs but it will not run slow enough I have to pull out the choke when returning to slow it down enough to get back in the slip and even then most of the time it cuts off. (with the choke off it runs almost full speed and cuts off when I try to slow it down. This makes returning to the slip dangerous and a royal pain. Can anyone help??

Hey Bryan – why not post this question in the Sailing Group? I would love to pretend that I know more about motors than I do, but I’m not even going to go there. I have been in your situation many times though, and it is dangerous and very difficult returning to a slip or mooring under these conditions. Best of luck & welcome aboard!
