Onward and Upward Post Olympics

A lot has happened since the Olympics! Graham began a fantastic vacation in the Med and I came home to sort out a move to Providence, RI. It’s been a month since moving in, and I love it here! We are really close to Newport, so I feel fully in touch with the sailing scene and also we have a little down town area to keep the flavor of city life.

I have been coaching and racing a lot. I worked with an adult team from Pequot YC down at an NYYC invitational regatta. Among other things, we worked on getting the J/70 up to speed. It was a fun challenge because no one new how to sail the boats. This was the first regatta in this new class! Our conclusion was that it sails a bit like an FJ upwind, and it lights up onto a plane on the windy downwind legs. They were fun to watch. Read the rest of this entry →

Team Biehl/McNay discuss the beginning of their European competition season

World Cup Event #3, Princess Sofia Trophy, Palma De Mallorca, Spain

Our European season was getting ready to begin and we felt ready to race. We had worked hard since Miami OCR. We had a couple training camps in Miami and also a two physical training sessions in Colorado Springs. We even had ‘mental capacity’ training with the US Navy Seals!

We arrived in Spain on March 25th and began preparing our boat. It was hard to remember what we had taken off the boat before shipping it to Europe from Perth, AUS, but as we looked it over, we were happy with how race ready it was. Read the rest of this entry →
