New Challenges in a New Class

February 26, 2013 in Team Sperry Blog

We have been out in Murcia enjoying the sun for our winter training, but in a different boat.  I have started a new challenge in the 49er FX, which has been a little different to what I am used to.  The FX is very quick compared to the Elliott 6m and just to add to the challenge, I am now steering.  There has been plenty of swimming which is a bit of a shock to the system!

Within the FX squad we have been doing a rotation system which has been a good opportunity to learn different skills from each other.  It has been a full on few months with a lot of on the water time along with our on shore fitness programs.  We have got our first event in Palma at the Princess Sofia regatta at the beginning of April, with a small warm up event a few weeks before.  I can’t wait to try out the skiff racing. Starting Back at School Again

November 7, 2012 in Team Sperry Blog

Dear all,

Time is flying by as usual! It has been a very busy month… I am back in school and boy it’s hard! I have been going to university for one month now and I’m getting back into it, after a 2-year break. At first it was weird because I knew nobody, since all my friends are graduated, but I made some new buddies and I’m starting to love it. The courses are also very interesting which makes things alot easier. I have been going to almost all classes but I haven’t had any time to study in the weekends or evenings because I have so much other things to do. I hope I find some time before the exams start in January ;)

I started training again two weeks ago, just to stay fit and not lose everything I build the last four years if I decide to do another campaign and continue to Rio. Also, I’ve been working hard in our apartment. It’s completely broken down by now and we can almost start building it up again. Can’t wait for the dust to be gone and the apartment to be finished. Finally our very own place! Clearly we have underestimated renovating, so much to do, think of and decide… Still, lots of fun! Read the rest of this entry →

Recharging Before the Final Push

July 11, 2012 in Team Sperry Blog

It’s 22 days until the opening ceremony of the games and me and Stu are just taking a week off to relax and get our batteries recharged before the final push.
June was a great month for us with a silver medal at the sail for gold regatta in home waters. We had spent a lot of our time training using the regatta as a final test, so to finish with a silver medal gives us great confidence rolling into this July period. It’s such an exciting time for us, to work for so many years and it to be right around the corner is awesome. We are ready and prepared for the challenge and we aspire to be our best in one months time. I wish it was today!!! It’s like waiting for Christmas as a wee kid.

Building Up to the Games

June 18, 2012 in Team Sperry Blog

It’s been a busy few weeks in the build up for Sail for Gold. The regatta was a good test for the games and the last big learning opportunity about the Olympic courses. Although the regatta didn’t quite go the way I planned slipping from what would have left me second to what in the end  was 4th after a mistake in the last 20 meters of the medal race. I feel that I learned several valuable lessons. In reflection, I feel positive that we are doing the right things and moving forward and with just over a month to go, I’m excited about the final run in.

Sebastian Ostling and Anton Dahlberg show some excitment for their final event before the games

Hello Sperry!

We are in England!

The final time is here. A lot of water has past under our boat since we set up our ultimate goal for the 2012 Olympics. The time has come where we will put all things together. It´s a great feeling – we have worked so hard for this.

We are exited and looking forward to compete in the final repetition before the games, Skandia Sail for Gold, which takes place at the exact same venue as the games. This is the start of our last preparation for the Olympics – now and further on Weymouth is our second home. Read the rest of this entry →
