Working Hard and Playing Hard

February 20, 2013 in Team Sperry Blog

Dear all,

Time for some news! It’s been five months since I have last sailed… time is flying by as always. BUT, I am being useful in the meantime, working hard for school.  January was tough and all about studying and making exams. I didn’t really study all that much in October, November and December because there were so many fun things to do after the Games, so now I have twice as much to do; typical!!!

The only good thing about it was that I could wear my pajamas all day long without feeling bad and that ‘hotel mummy’ was treating me right! Mom made my favorite dishes when she didn’t have to work… I am so going to miss that! It wasn’t all that bad of course but there are things that are definitely more fun. Thank god for Norris, my cat, aka study motivator, who kept me company at all times putting himself always right where he is not supposed to be, covering my notes and books. Erik Storck and Trevor Moore explain the variations of intensity in their current training schedule

May 29, 2012 in Team Sperry Blog

When asked about a typical training day, we often find it hard to answer. Sure, when we are on the water we have a routine and practice plan. In the gym, we follow a very specific routine given to us by our trainers. But when we step back to look at our program more globally, it’s a true ebb and flow of intensity to ensure that we peak at the right time.

This year, we have one peak to focus on, and that’s the Olympics in Weymouth. Everything we have been doing since we qualified for the US Team in December has been with an eye towards London. Most recently that has meant that we are putting a more significant focus on physical training than on sailing. Trevor’s shoulder has been acting up, and we took an aggressive approach to get it back to full health as soon as possible. He is in intensive rehab at the US Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. We are very confident he will be back to form in time for the Sail for Gold Regatta in Weymouth in June, and more importantly, for the Olympics just over a month later. Read the rest of this entry →

Ivan Gaspic – February 2012

Last month was full of action. The whole of Europe was under snow so I did some winter action on my snowboard. My hometown Split was under snow for two weeks which is the first time in more than 200 years. Water was out of reach as temperatures were well below 0C for few weeks. In my pictures you can see the amount of the snow but unfortunately I didn’t make any videos. Read the rest of this entry →

February 2012 – Evi Van Acker

Hello everybody!

Very busy weeks since I last wrote you. I have worked hard this month! I finished the first four weeks of my physical training block and with still two more to go, I’m still alive without injuries so I guess I’m doing good! My trainers told me I was going to suffer and… they were right.

The first two weeks I was hitting the gym, lifted weights girls shouldn’t lift, did core training on a ball, had injury prevention sessions, tried to be stronger then the rowing machine, rode my bike, ran up the stairs, etc… you name it, it’s probably on my schedule! But it has been fun and whenever I was having a hard time or when I was tired I just tried to think that whatever I was doing at that moment, it’s going to make the difference on the water. Or I would switch to disco tune on my ipod – that worked too! Read the rest of this entry →
