Check out an update from Jen French in the UK, who is one of our US Sailing Team Sperry Top-Sider Paralympic athletes who will be competing in the…
Hello from the Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy in England,
This the venue of the Olympic and Paralympic Games sailing events. Our team has been here for over a week. We had 5 days of training with our coach, Ian, and 2 days on the water with our Canadian training partners. This was a good time to get back in the boat and do some venue homework. We also took this time to evaluate our sails for the Paralympic Games. We also took delivery of our Games spinnaker (see attached photo).
After this week of training, we took a few days to give our bodies a rest and give some love to Kalou (our boat). Now our team is ready to compete in the upcoming regatta, Sail for Gold. It is hosted by the National Sailing Academy and will include all the Olympic and Paralympic classes. For the entire event, there is an amazing attendance; 60 countries, 517 boats and 716 athletes. For the SKUD-18 class, all the teams who will be competing at the Paralympic Games are here. This will be a good gauge for us to test our skills and take inventory of our competitors. Racing begins on Monday and will commence on Friday for the Paralympic classes. Follow us with updates on our Facebook Page: J2 Racing or daily results will be posted to the Sail for Gold event website (look for the SKUD18 class).
We would not be able to get this far without your generosity. We truly appreciate your support and encouragement as we make our finally journey to the 2012 Paralympic Games. Keep cheering for us!
